If you are like most people, you have seen some invention (service or product) for sale on TV or the Internet and thought, “I thought of that years ago.”
Most of us have. I know it’s happened to me.
The right thing
I remember once in my twenties, I had an idea for garbage cans that had a locking base … something that would be useful in parks to help keep them clean. I drew up some rough sketches and even checked into having them professionally designed and produced.
Well, you know how these stories go. I didn’t do anything about it. Then, one day a decade or so later, I saw almost the exact design being purchased by our local government for the city parks.
It was a very unpleasant feeling to know that I had a winning idea for a product that people would find useful and would actually buy.
At the right time
I’ve always thought that if I would have just followed through, I probably would have placed myself smack in the early part of the recycling movement. I may have been able to sell my designs or finished products and made a mint.
But, I didn’t. I let it sit.
Done the right way
The only thing worse than having a great product or service, and being ready at the right time, is not knowing how to do it the right way.
The truth is, I don’t know that I would have ever figured out the right way to get that product manufactured and marketed properly. (Much less in time to capitalize on the early years of recycling.)
I knew the problems I was solving and knew the product, but I had zero experience executing on a plan that would most likely make me successful.
The silver lining
One of the things I learned from that experience was that follow-through for real success requires learning new things and getting people on my team that know more than I do about certain things.
I’ve reaped the benefit of that knowledge multiple times over the years.
That knowledge paved the way for all the success I’ve had in my career. From corporations to government to aging in place to consulting …
It helped me be successful in nearly everything I’ve ever put my hands to.
Perhaps right now you’re in a position where you feel like you’re in the right place at the right time with your aging in place business.
Do you ever feel like you if you could just solve that one problem, things would be better?
Do you wish you could accomplish one or two things, and then you’d be able to achieve some of the success you know is waiting for you?
Learn from my mistake.
Find someone to help you over those humps and solve the things in your business that are holding you back.
I know so many folks that work hard day-in and day-out, yet they never get those few things solved and it keeps them from living the success they’ve worked so hard to achieve.
And, really, it’s almost always the same issues that hold small business owners back.
If that is you, get a coach or reputable consultant to help you identify and begin addressing those things.
The Age Wave isn’t going to wait for you and you may just miss your window to realizing your business dreams.
If you want to talk to someone, feel free to schedule a time for us to talk.
